Bilingual in year 7We are the bilingual class 7F and we are having geography in English. In the last couple of weeks we’ve talked about the Earth and our Solar System.

First we learned important things about our eight planets. We have the Inner Solar System which has Mercury, Venus, Earth and not forgetting Mars. These are closest to the Sun and are called the terrestrial planets because they have very solid rocky surfaces. The Outer Solar System consists of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These are sometimes called the gas giants.

We also took a closer look at our planet, the Earth. It is the third planet from the Sun and comes between the planet Venus and the planet Mars. The Earth needs approximately 365 days to complete its orbit around the Sun. As the Earth orbits around the Sun it turns on its own axis which takes around 24 hours. The Earth orbits around the Sun and because it is tilted we have the four seasons.
Furthermore we learned about the different spheres of the geosphere. Scientists say that our planet Earth has four main spheres:  biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere  and atmosphere.

The most important sphere for the Earth is the atmosphere which is made of all the Earth’s gases and protects the Earth from the outside. The atmosphere is responsible that we are able to live here and that we have many different plants and animals.
I really liked our class about our Solar System as we all now have a better understanding. We learned so many interesting things and facts about our planet, the Earth. There were a lot of cool presentations in class and we really had a great time.
